Mark Rosenzweig (whispers)  > Travel > Disneyland Resort- Dec, 2007
As the "splurge" portion of our December, 2007 Southern California trip, we opted to stay for four nights at Disney's Grand Californian Resort and Spa. This made for a more relaxed Disneyland Resort visit, as we had two "bookend" days that didn't involve visiting the parks themselves. As always, the Disneyland Resort did not fail to deliver.

Mark Rosenzweig (whispers) > For a Disney Parks fan, a balcony view can't get much better than Space Mountain towering over the Main Street U.S.A. train station. With the sliding door open a crack at night, our alarm clock each morning would be that of the Disneyland Railroad and Mark Twain coming to life in the early morning hours.
Mark Rosenzweig (whispers) > Like many structures at the resort, the Soarin' Over California showbuilding was built nearly 30 feet into the ground to better fit in scale with the smaller, more intimate feel of the resort.
Mark Rosenzweig (whispers) > Disney's Grand Californian Resort and Spa's design is somewhat of a cross between Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World. The Great Hall is quite a marvel to behold.

Mark Rosenzweig (whispers) > Staying at a Disney resort meant that were granted early admission into Disneyland on two of our three park days. All of Tomorrowland and Fantasyland were open for a full hour before the official opening of the park. This allowed us to get lots of rides on Space Mountain, as well as getting a jump on the crowds on attractions like Peter Pan's Flight, and especially the new Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.
